Notes: While not technically a playground, there is enough open space and outdoor exhibits to keep the young and old happy. And the tower is always free and has panoramic views of the city.

The museum does not allow baby-carrier backpacks or oversized or jogging strollers. Front packs, umbrella and regular strollers are permitted.

There is also an outdoor scuplture garden, but the scupltures are off-limits to climbers.

John F. Kennedy Drive in Golden Gate Park is closed to traffic on Saturdays from April 4 through September 27, 2008. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Fridays until 8:45 p.m. Free admission on the first Tuesday of the month.
