What is a playgroup?

GGMG facilitates playgroups using our technology platform, BigTent. We create playgroup 'subgroups' within the main GGMG group. These playgroups vary in size and are divided based on the date of birth of the child, residential neighborhoods, whether mom works outside the home, and whether it is her first child. Playgroups are facilitated by the members of each group. Playgroups are meant to serve as an additional support group for moms of babies the same age, as well as serving as play dates for the children. This means no caretakers other than moms should plan on attending.

What is a subclub?

SubClubs are a spin-off of Just for Moms events. They are clubs based on moms' shared interests - like playgroups for moms! The first set of BigTent subclubs includes book clubs, a variety of sports clubs (like tennis, hiking, running, biking, and walking), a knitting club, a dinner club, a scrapbooking club, a movie club, and several others. Once the clubs are formed, the members can decide when, where, and how often the club will meet. Some clubs may choose to include children and families in their meetings, while others will want to keep it just for moms - it is up to each subclub to decide.

How do I join a playgroup?
All GGMG members now have the ability to join a playgroup online. Just go to http://ggmg.org/groups.php, find the group you would like to join and click on the group's name. You will then be taken to BigTent to complete the registration process. If you have any questions, contact the Playgroups Committee at playgroups@ggmg.org.

How do I join a subclub?
All GGMG members now have the ability to join a playgroup online. Just go to http://ggmg.org/subclubs.html, find the group you would like to join and click on the group's name. You will then be taken to BigTent to complete the registration process. If you have any questions, contact the SubClubs Committee at subclubs@ggmg.org.

What happens after I join?
Once you have joined a playgroup or subclub, it will be available to you in BigTent - just look under 'my groups'. You can communicate with other members of the group by posting messages to the forum. You can also use the event calendar within your subgroup to post your weekly playdates and get togethers.

Each playgroup and subclub will need a leader who will be responsible for organizing the group's activities. To recognize and support these leaders, GGMG will organize quarterly Leader Appreciation Nights. These will be social events aimed at building best practices amongst our groups as well as treating our leaders to some well deserved pampering. To volunteer to lead your group, please send an email to playgroups@ggmg.org or subclubs@ggmg.org

Have an Existing Playgroup?
If you have an existing playgroup and you would like for it to become a subgroup within GGMG on BigTent, please send an email to playgroups@ggmg.org and tell us 1) the name of your playgroup 2) the current facilitator or leader 3) names and email addresses for all members 4) the approximate age range of the children and 5) the day and time of the week that you currently meet. We will create the subgroup for you and notify you once it has been completed. By having your playgroup as part of GGMG on BigTent, you have the ability to open it up to new members at anytime plus your leader will automatically be connected with other playgroup leaders to share information and ideas on how to run a successful playgroup.

Specialized Playgroups
If you are interested in creating a playgroup based upon specific criteria (for example: Korean speaking moms, Moms in their 20's, etc) email us at playgroups@ggmg.org with your specific request and your contact information. We will then create a subgroup for you on BigTent and make it available to all members of GGMG.

If you are interested in creating a new subclub, email us at subclubs@ggmg.org with your specific request and your contact information. We will then create a subgroup for you on BigTent and make it available to all members of GGMG.
