Running Your Playgroup
 
Playgroup Structure
GGMG forms new playgroups of 8-10 moms, based upon the date of birth of the child intended for the playgroup (newborns up to 18 months), and whether mom works outside of the home. Playgroups are facilitated by the members. Playgroups are meant to serve as an additional support group for moms of babies the same age, as well as serving as play dates for the babies. This means no caretakers other than moms should plan on attending with your child.
 

How Do I Join a Playgroup?
New playgroups are formed almost every other month: January, March, May, July, and September. These playgroup kick-offs are held at 6 pm, just prior to the General Meeting, which is always on the third Thursday of each month.

If you would like to be placed into a new playgroup, you must be a GGMG member, and you need to register for a playgroup kick-off on the Event Calendar in ggmg.clubexpress.com. Registration is required for ANYONE who wants to join a playgroup even if:

  • you are planning on attending this meeting,
  • you cannot attend the meeting but would still like to be placed into a playgroup,
  • you were previously placed in a playgroup but want to try and find a new one for any reason.

Here is how to register for the event in order to be placed in a playgroup:

  1. Login to ggmg.clubexpress.com
  2. Click the Event Calendar on the left-hand menu
  3. Find the month of the next Playgroup Kick-off
  4. Click "New Playgroups Forming" (It opens a window for the event with all the details)
  5. Click Register Now
  6. Answer the questions on the form

PLEASE NOTE: Babies in car seats or carriers are welcome at the playgroup kick-off, however, strollers must be left outside of the room due to our limited space. And we hope you'll stay for the General Meeting, too!

 Add To Your Playgroup
We are constantly looking for existing playgroups for 1 - 3 year old children who may have recently moved to San Francisco or who may have just found GGMG. If your existing playgroup is looking for more members, or you are open to accepting a new member, please place your group on our Open and Active playgroups list by emailing playgroups@ggmg.org with the playgroup facilitator's name, contact information, dates of birth and age range for the children, and the day/time your group meets.

Older Child?
To check our Open and Active playgroups list to see if there might be an existing playgroup with openings for your 1 - 3 year old, please email us at playgroups@ggmg.org with your child's date of birth and we will see if we can place you into an existing group.

Specialized Playgroups
If you are interested in, or would like to facilitate a playgroup based upon criteria other than the age of your child (e.g. ethnicity, religion, neighborhood, single moms, first time moms over 40, adoptive moms, etc.), email us at playgroups@ggmg.org with your specific request and your contact information and we would be happy to add you to our Specialized Playgroup list, send appropriate candidates your way, and offer suggestions as to how to find other like-minded moms for your playgroup.
