What happens when you let some of the nation's best decorators loose in an 18,000-square-foot mansion modeled after Versailles? You get an explosion of whimsy, elegance, and jaw-dropping decor spread across four floors and dozens of rooms. A perfect afternoon outing for design-obsessed Houzz addicts, this year's decorator showcase has been called the best in years. The spectacle is probably best enjoyed sans kiddo, but moms can get away with a baby strapped in a carrier. Parking in the Presidio Heights neighborhood is easy, and the California and Sacramento line busses stop right nearby. Though there are no rules prohibiting children, bringing a young child to this antiques-filled abode is like bringing a bull to a china shop, so it's an activity most appropriate for teens and older. When done soaking in the luxury, the shops and cafes of Sacramento Street nearby make an excellent next stop.

The showcase runs through Sunday, May 26th. Tickets are pricey ($40), but benefit the San Francisco University High School. Allow 60-90 minutes to enjoy all four floors. Tickets are NOT date-specific. Purchase them and show
